Prison Stripes

This week a lot of New Yorkers and some Native Americans have combined their Afghans with the prison garb they gathered from EBay. I see stripes and blankets wrapped around solitary figures of all shapes and sizes, wide as mobile homes and tall as bridges–crossing avenues, scarfed, hatted and hooded. They want to standout, avoid being run down by delivery guys on bikes or texting commuters. Some want to attract skunks; others just stink from inappropriate perfumes. No one is predicting that these pedestrians in blankets will coat themselves in old carpets instead of showering, but at least we can see them.
